Amber Salik (she/her) is a Los-Angeles based creative using photography and narrative medicine to explore ideas around identity, community, loss and (be)longing from a holistic, person-centered lens. As a trained Expressive Arts Therapist, her work focuses on multidimensional healing and connection by weaving together the threads of storytelling, psychology, vulnerability, and artistic expression. She specializes in environmental, abstract/conceptual and documentary-style work, inspired by the dualities of light and dark, stillness and movement, to signify the spatial and temporal dimensions of human experience.
My photography journey began around 15 years ago. I received my first camera when I was around 11 years old. I had grown up watching my grandfather tote around a myriad of cameras and camcorders, ever the family documentarian, capturing all of our vacations, recitals, birthdays and graduations. Through him, I learned the beauty in capturing everyday moments and the importance of memorializing and honoring our history. He bought me my first camera, a Nikon Coolpix point-and-shoot, that I took with me everywhere. Since then, I’ve dabbled in photography on and off over the years as a hobby, and officially launched my freelance business, Ambient Vibes Curation, in 2022.
Outside of photography, I also enjoy finding new music and attending live shows and performances. I’m naturally very curious and have a wide range of interests, so my spare time is usually spent doing one of the following: reading poetry and nonfiction essays, taking dance classes, hiking & exploring new places, trying new recipes, watching shows on Netflix & Hulu and most recently, trying my hand at ceramics and set design for events.
