Images selected for "We  LA: Re-Inventing the Horizon" exhibition, curated by Dr. Rotem Rozental, Los Angeles Center of Photography Executive Director and Chief Curator. Exhibited at LACP in Los Angeles, CA.
As an expressive arts therapist and narrative photographer, my work often explores the emotional landscapes we navigate in times of transition—grief, hope, memory, and identity. In this series, I delve into the duality of grief and hope through the interplay of darkness and light. Each photograph captures the stark contrast between the heaviness of loss and the quiet persistence of hope that lingers, even in the darkest moments.
Los Angeles, with its sharp contrasts—light and shadow, presence and absence, dreams and disillusionment—serves as both backdrop and metaphor for this exploration. The images are predominantly black, representing the depth of grief: the black hole of loss that feels all-encompassing. Yet, within each frame, there is a sliver of light—a subtle, persistent glow that signifies the resilience of hope. The light does not erase the darkness, nor does the darkness diminish the light; instead, they shape each other, defining the contours of what it means to endure, to remember, and to move forward.
Through my photography, I aim to capture the emotional nuances that words often fail to convey. This series reflects my belief that grief and hope are not opposites, but companions—inseparable elements of the human experience. In a city that continually reinvents itself, these images serve as a reminder that even amidst loss, light finds a way through.
